100 Things I Love About Toku 5

Oh dear god so many gorgeous people. Kamen Rider, Power Rangers, Garo, Ultraman, Chouseishin Series, etc. It doesn't matter, all the casting directors seem to love them some pretty.

And it's not all the same, either! There's all kinds of variety and it seriously doesn't matter what your type is, there's someone out there to push your buttons.

Which is not to say that some tastes get more love, but I don't think anyone should feel lacking in eye candy.

The only exception I can think of is Big Bad Beetleborgs, and that is because the entire cast is either children or under a mask and/or heavy makeup.

Drunk Sentai = Best Sentai

So, my original plan was just to summarize the shocking and amazing discoveries that [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl made while watching Dekaranger (and then Carranger) drunk, but the chatlogs are kind of a thing of glory so I might as well share the whole thing.

Just as a heads up: This is A LOT. Like, 60+ pages a lot. And it starts out clear enough but eventually devolves into ALL CAPS ALL THE TIME and less that perfect spelling. (I feel like that is part of its charm though.)

Surely this will not make me look foolish in the least )

So! Who wants to join us next time?

(Also, TSB wanted me to include our tweets to Arrow, but there is already so much text and I have the Gokai raw waiting for me.)

So, fic exchanges.

So I'm in Alpha's Magical Fic Exchange (because Power Rangers, you guys. You guys, Power Rangers), and I totally thought that the fic was due on the 8th and totally hadn't written anything. I was blanking on the minimum word count (not that I had any worries about making it; I like words and they like me back), so I went to the signup post to refresh.

AND HOSHITSHITFUCK THE FIC IS DUE TOMORROW.

So I banged out 1998 words of pure ridiculousness and now I cannot immediately share them with you because they are for a fic exchange. ;_;

[livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl (the one running the exchange, for those who don't care not in the know) had good things to say when she read it, for what it's worth.

She also tried teasing me about the fic I'm getting, but I pretended to be was immune, so she stopped.

30 Days of PR: All Days + Bonus Day 31

So, I totally died off on this meme for a while, and have been doing TWENTY DAYS OF CATCHING UP. However, my personality dictates that I backdate all the entries onto their appropriate days, because... well, because. So my solution for not being rude and making you open twenty tabs of me yammering about children's television, I'm collecting ALL of my answers here and adding the bonus Day 31 [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl did as penance for falling behind on her meme. If you've been following as I posted, start at Day 11 if you don't want to reread.

30 Days of PR: Day 13

Day 13: Favorite Monster Of The Week

Terror Toad, y'all. Mostly because the one PR book I owned as a kid was the novelization of Power Rangers Punks, and I read the shit out of it. I'm not even sure I ever even saw the whole episode until my All-of-PR Marathon, because I remember being excited to finally actually see the battle and OMG it was everything I hoped for. Even the inexplicable "sometimes it's a beam of light from his horn, sometimes it's his actual tongue" bit was charming. And the skin of his stomach TELLS YOU WHAT HE HAS EATEN*. He makes no sense and I love him.

*This may actually be what edges him out over Pudgy Pig, the MOTW of the one VHS of PR I had growing up.

30 Days of PR: Day 1

So yeah, this is my "make November productive" activity, because I'm looking for a second job right now, and hope to have it soon, which will be less than productive for getting something like NaNo done, and fuck mustaches.

Day 1: How did you get into PR?

I actually watched from nearly the beginning, if not the beginning. I may have missed the first airing of Day of the Dumpster, but I most definitely saw the out-of-order airing of Food Fight that came next. Pudgy Pig made an impression on young me. So did Billy, because whenever I played Power Rangers out in my backyard, I used a couple point-free lawn darts as the separated Power Lance.

I continued watching through Time Force, though I had an amazing knack for missing the ends of seasons - I didn't see Countdown to Destruction, for example, until I did my whole-series marathon that I started a couple summers ago. I fell out of watching because I started high school during TF, and suddenly I had shit going on on Saturday mornings and weekday afternoons ALL THE TIME, and when I didn't have anything going on on a Saturday, that meant GLORIOUS SLEEP.

I got back into watching, and into the fandom proper*, in the summer of 2008. I don't even remember what set it off, but I decided that I was going to watch through all the seasons of PR that I had seen before, so I could catch all those episodes I'd missed (ESPECIALLY the end of TF, because seriously). Then I went "Eh, I can throw in WF, finish out the Fox Kids era." Then I went "That's more than half the series, I'll just watch the whole thing." Except for OO, I'm glad I did. (I'm kidding. OO has an entertaining theme song, if you imagine the B-52s are singing it, and that's actually worth a lot to me and my camp loving heart.)

*I'd kiiiind of been in the fandom before. I wasn't on any forums, didn't read fic or anything, but I read enough fansites to have found out about Super Sentai during Lost Galaxy.

Another post so soon? What IS this tomfoolery?

So, I've done a few things. One, I've got all my prompts in order, and am about 97% set on what stories I'm going to write to fill them. I think that the hoops I'd have to jump through to include the Shinkenger story I want to write are a strong sign that that prompt is where I can pick up the TF slack, and Zeo never quite gets its own story, but it shares in more stories than any other season, I think, and one of the stories is going to be very Machine Empire focused, so I'm okay with that. (Besides, all the Zeo rangers were in other seasons, so.)

Also: I have come to the conclusion that I am going to write THE WHOLE THING first, and then give you a fic a day for ALMOST A MONTH. A MONTH.

It will be awesome.

Why does this always happen when I write?

Just once, I'd like a writing project I take on to remain the size I originally thought it was, or maybe even wind up shorter than expected.

You guys, I'm not just aiming for a blackout on my Ranger Bingo card. I'm aiming for a 'Verse. I'd like to stay fairly mum about the thing, since god knows I'm going to be jiggering the thing about significantly before I start setting anything to paper (which is why even though I promised a story a week, nothing's been forthcoming yet). All I'm going to say right now is the running theme of the stories is "The thing you're proudest of that you've never told anyone."

There will be pan-season stories, and stories that focus on each of the seasons individually (although right now Time Force gets some of its focus split to SPD. I may have to pull one of the RPM stories over even though I really like both ideas. And I guess Zeo and PRiS are sharing a bit, too. Hm). And if I feel like any of the seasons get shafted in covering the bingo card, I guess I'll consider "FREE SPACE" a prompt, or just write something that fits in. There's going to be a lot of room to insert moments into canon, the way I plan to write this.

(Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] second_batgirl don't worry - you'll get more details, just not here ;D )

secret identities almost blown
villains posing as Rangers
villain internal conflict
after the end
Ranger reunion

evil goatee universe
date night interrupted by monster attack

I have Ideas, you guys. Also, I'm so happy sentai is allowed on this card too - I'm thinking of using a prior-to-the-series team of Shinkenger for pre-MMPR rangers, though I'm not sure yet.

The plan: get at least one fic out a week in order to get in the habit of writing, try shifting to original works after bingo. Here's hoping! :D
