Beyonce + Fosse = I'm not sure if this is WTF or awesome.

So. I was a little hinky at Beyonce when she totally ripped off the Rich Man's Frug* from Sweet Charity for her one video**, which steals more from the look of the scene than the dance itself. Then she took this*** Fosse routine Gwen Verdon did and turned it into this**** which, despite having an entirely different look visually, has the dance which is still very clearly inspired by the Fosse. Do I despise her for messing with classics or, since she has apparently been completely open about the inspiration in both cases, enjoy that she's fangirling a choreographer who is very worth it, and bringing his dance aesthetic to an audience who might never have seen it? I don't knooooooow!

I find this very interesting and unique that SHE IS bringing this into the now. Because quite honestly friends & I were having a discussion and thought that some of the moves came from Tina Turner & The Ikettes. (none of us are professional dancers....so no deep research had been done to form this opinion) BUT.....with this new information that you have shared...I find it ALL even that much more interesting and I look forward to watching more Fosse footage.

I'm not a die-hard Beyonce fan...but I do have an appreciation for her athleticism AND her ability to take the scene to the next level with her intricate routines. No one else is doing this.
