Oh my god, you people.
May. 23rd, 2007 03:39 amSo, I've been catching up on Avatar: The Last Airbender over the last few days, and the last episode I saw was "Tales of Ba Sing Se," and if I hadn't thought that this show was masterfully crafted before, Iroh's vignette would have convinced me thoroughly. You see, I very rarely cry at events happening onscreen, whether that screen be small and phosphorescent or large and projected-upon, and this had be absolutely sobbing. In maybe five total minutes, it ripped my heart out more than The Shadow Box or Pentecost did in two full acts.
And then?
Then? The vignette gets dedicated to the memory of Mako, Iroh's voice actor who had recently passed away. My eyes were burning because I wasn't crying enough.
And the rest of the show is just so magnificently done... I'm convinced that I would absolutely love the thing even if I loathed the plot, it's constructed that well. And the plot and characters and everything are fucking amazing.
I know it looks like it's just some knock-off anime Nickelodeon is cashing in on but it is most decidedly not, and you need to watch it. Now. There are plenty of places where it is available on the web. There are torrents, direct downloads... I even streamed a bunch of episodes from season one. You can find it easily.
DO IT.
