That was a hell of a lot of content for one hour of TV. Kept thinking Torchwood was going to have a real two-parter, and then the episode kept going. Impressive.

So. I can forgive the Martha-jealousy not showing up because, y'know, zombie Owen. Bit of a distractor, that.

However, writers, what did I say about victimizing Tosh? That was very unkind of you, and if you keep this behavior up, I'm afraid you'll get no dessert.

I have to say, though, Torchwood's finally figuring out how to use the Weevils this season. They were never really more than set dressing last go-round, even in Combat. Guess the writers just need more time to go thinky about what they could do. Like, for instance, through sheer number both be creepy visual and also real-fear inspiring in a man who always comes back to life. If you're in that many equally small pieces, how do you come back, y'know? Jack doesn't seem the type to Fargo himself to find out.

The actual threat of the episode rather didn't matter, though. I mean, it was never meant to, but they weren't even trying in the end. Which was unfortunate, because by the end, the threat was all that was still running in the episode. Rather a misstep, that.

Also rather interesting is that Martha's run on Torchwood is being significantly overshadowed by Owen, given that I understand she leaves after next, and the preview for next still shows quite a lot of Owen-being-dead focus.

Still, she works well in ensemble, and I do hope she's on board the rumored everyone-and-their-mother (maybe literally, 'cause New Who is rather domestic) Who finale. She and Donna and Jack and Sarah Jane and the Doctor all together? With Mickey and Jackie and Tish? Would be brilliant. Rose being there could very well work out, but it all depends on how it's written. The series would have you believe that Rose and Martha in the same place would be the end of all things, but I do hope that's not how they play it if it happens.

But yeah. Torchwood. Not spot on, but still realms above last year's Chibnall. (And I have to give the man credit - Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was just as realms above his work last series as this was.)
